The Cabinet on Professional Practice consists of nine members, four elected by the membership, four appointed by the ONA Board of Directors, and one chair. One position on the Cabinet reflects, at a minimum, the following focus areas: Nursing Practice and Research, Education, and Human Rights and Ethics.
The cabinet is charged with evaluating current trends, developments, and issues related to healthcare professionals, recommending policies and positions to the Board of Directors and the House of Delegates, and working closely with ONA’s Professional Practice Staff to disseminate information, programs and activities to the membership. The cabinet is also responsible for oversight of ONA’s Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) programs.

Joining the Cabinet
Cabinet members should be aware of current trends in nursing practice, education, and/or human rights and ethics and be willing to become well-versed and take leadership in at least one of these key areas. They should be able to listen to and communicate the concerns of members, including concerns in these focus areas. Meetings are held quarterly, and members need to attend at least 80% of all meetings (in person or virtually), and be able to access email regularly.
